As a father of two dedicated Kuk Sool Won practitioners I decided in 2019 to leave the sidelines and start practicing Kuk Sool Won myself. I studied Kuk Sool under the tutelage of PKJN Caroline Hurst and KSN Jane Hurst and in August of 2021 achieved the rank of first degree black belt (Jyo Kyo Nim). By February 2025, I also achieved the rank of second degree black belt (Kyo Sah Nim). Due to the complications of COVID, I started assisting in the teaching and learning of the Kuk Sool Won curriculum, initially with junior students and then senior students. Through this I discovered a passion for passing on my knowledge and understanding of Kuk Sool Won to other students, and developing both physical and mental well-being along with confidence.

Hi, I'm Carl Brightwell, a dedicated martial artist with over two decades of experience. Starting with International Tae Kwon Do in 1992, I've also trained with World Tae Kwon Do before settling in with Kuk Sool Won™ of Pukekohe in 2018. Achieving my Black Belt in February 2022 under the tutelage of Kuk Sool Master PKJN Hurst and KSN Hurst, I decided with JKN Paul to set up a Kuk Sool Won™  club to share our passion and knowledge with others. Martial arts is a way of life for me, teaching me discipline, perseverance, and humility as I strive to improve my technique and deepen my understanding of this art form.

Kia Ora! I am JKN Nathan. I began my martial arts journey in 2017 at Kuk Sool Won™ of Auckland, and have recently achieved the rank of Kyo Sah Nim or Second Degree Black Belt. My journey with Kuk Sool began with the aim to learn how to defend myself, but have also learnt many other skills along the way. I am dedicated to continuing Kuk Sool Won™ through the next generation of artists, and helping them along the way on their pursuit of excellence.

Hi there, I’m JKN Jason. I joined Kuk Sool Won™ in late 2017. I recently achieved my Jyo Kyo Nim or Fist Degree Black Belt in August of 2021 after 5 years of hard work and determination. I help Jyo Kyo Nims Paul and Carl, as an assistant instructor at Counties Kuk Sool Won™. I enjoy seeing our students grow and become the best versions of themselves through the practice of our art.
